Reading Aeronautical Charts
Before strapping on your backpack aircraft and running off into the sky, you need to make sure the sky you are flying into is not restricted in some way or completely off limits. This means as a PPG pilot understanding airspace is a critical skill to develop.
To the right is a link to both the Skyvector Aeronautical charts and the FAA produced guide on how to read them.
Videos on YouTube are mainly targeted toward private pilot students so there are topics covered PPG pilots don’t really need to worry about however the different types of airspace definitely apply to us. I’ve weeded through all the videos and present the best ones for you below.
Alternatively there is a DVD course created by a PPG pilot that teaches airspace specifically for PPG pilots. It’s not free but it’s what I used to learn airspace rules and I personally think it’s worth the investment.
